Kanevsky District Historical and Local Lore Museum

In 1972, the Kanevsky District Historical and Local Lore Museum was established. As of the end of 2021, the museum employed 16 staff members, of whom 8 work on a permanent basis and 7 of those have higher education. As of January 1, 2022, the museum's collection comprised 33,657 storage units, including 25,396 items in the main collection and 8,261 items in the scientific and auxiliary collection. The majority of these items are printed publications, photographs, documents, ethnographic objects and numismatics. The museum continues to expand its collections, including household items, printed publications, photographs and negatives. The exhibition reflects the history of the founding and development of the stanitsa (Cossack settlement), Cossack life, the district's nature, as well as the Great Patriotic War (World War II), the occupation of the district by Nazi invaders, the history of notable local residents, participants of the war, Heroes of the Soviet Union, the partisan movement, the underground medical detachment and internationalist paratroopers. The museum conducts research and cultural-educational activities.
