About museum
In September 2004 the S. M. Lisenkov Museum was opened; it was officially presented to the public on December 25, 2008. The museum houses more than 10,000 exhibits, and the building was constructed in 1814 by first-guild merchant Sergey Mikhailovich Lisenkov. His great-grandson, Anatoly Yakovlevich Mikheev, works in the space industry. The district is also the homeland of the great-grandfather of cosmonaut Vladislav Volkov and of nine Doctors of Science employed in the country's aerospace sector. Thanks to them, the first 'Hall of Cosmonautics' in Tatarstan was opened. The museum is a member of the Association of Museums of Cosmonautics of the Russian Federation. Alkeyev land is an important center of the ancient Zakamye civilization, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds and monuments of history and culture dating back to the Paleolithic. The museum's most valuable collections include items of archaeology, numismatics, ethnography, natural science collections, history of technology, applied arts, sculptures, graphic arts, paintings, and rare books.
