About museum

As early as the 15th century, in Salachik on the site of the present-day suburb of Bakhchisaray, near the fortress of the Yashlav beys in Kirk-Yer (modern Chufut-Kale), a khan's palace of the first rulers of the Crimean Khanate was built. In 1578, according to Martin Bronevsky, the town of Salachik existed here with good houses, a mosque, tombs and baths. Of all this, only two monuments have been preserved — a madrasa and a dürbe (mausoleum). They were built during the reign of Khan Mengli Giray (1466–1515). Above the door a slab with an inscription indicating the date of the madrasa's construction is set. Around the madrasa are the palace of Khan Jochi-Giray with four towers and the Palace of Justice. Not far from Salachik is the villa of Khan Bahadir Giray (1049) and the palace of Khan Jochi-Giray (1466), surrounded by gardens and decorated with gilded paintings and fine hall finishes. The name of the Zyndzhirly school comes from the Turkic word 'zynjir', which means 'chain', because an iron chain is hung under the lintel of the main entrance.
