Interactive space 'The World by Touch'
About museum
The Museum in the Dark 'The World by Touch' was founded on September 29, 2015. It is the first tactile museum in Saint Petersburg. Tours are led by blind guides in complete darkness. The museum's idea is connected to fostering tolerance and mutual understanding between sighted and blind people.
The museum space consists of five locations that simulate a person's everyday life and interests: 'Room', 'Street', 'Supermarket', 'Tactile Museum', 'Kitchen'. In each location a guest explores the surrounding world by touch, by smell, by taste and through sounds. The new-format social project 'The World by Touch' offers the opportunity to experience what life is like for a blind person.
Today 'The World by Touch' welcomes up to 6,000 guests a month — the sensory quest is attended by families, friends, city tourists and curious locals, couples in love, parents with young children, school classes and work teams. The venue offers guided tours in the dark along a route lasting 90 minutes, private tours — romantic dates for couples, master classes on preparing dishes in the dark, trainings for corporate teams and even excursions in a real city environment with closed eyes.
The place not only introduces visitors to the world of a blind person, but also helps explore human emotions. Darkness is brighter than it seems.
