Cherkessk Local History Museum
About museum
The only local history museum in the republic of Karachay-Cherkessia will soon reopen to visitors. Initially, only one department of the museum — "Nature" — will be open. The building, founded in 1916, is an architectural monument. The museum houses a unique collection of archaeological ceramics and bronze, archaeological textiles, an ethnographic collection of gold-embroidered clothing and silver jewelry, mountain silk embroidered shawls, photographs, and a paleontological collection. The museum's collections total about 100,000 storage units, and the exhibition halls cover 318 sq. m. The museum's reopening will help people become better acquainted with the history and culture of Karachay-Cherkessia.
