State Historical, Architectural and Natural Museum-Reserve 'Monrepos Park'
About museum
The rare beauty of this rocky park of the 18th–19th centuries is located on the grounds of the former private estate of the barons von Nicolai, who became famous in Russia for their achievements in education and diplomacy. Tverdysh Island represents a unique landscape, and geologists have shown that the massive granite outcrops and picturesque terrain were formed by glaciation and earthquakes. In this unusual place Monrepos Park was created, and in a short time it became renowned as one of the most beautiful parks in Europe. The total area of the museum-reserve is 161.4 ha, of which 35 ha are parkland and 126.4 ha are forest-park. The combination of natural beauty and the romantic landscaped park makes Monrepos especially attractive.
