Icon. The Mother of God of the Sign. Set: Prophetic row of the iconostasis of the Transfiguration Church on Kizhi Island

The icon «The Mother of God of the Sign» is part of the prophetic series of the iconostasis of the Transfiguration Church on Kizhi Island. It was created in the first quarter of the XVIII century. The icon is painted in tempera on three pine boards using levkas and pavoloka. It depicts a waist portrait of the Mother of God with her arms raised up. On her chest is a medallion with the image of Christ Emmanuel: in his left hand he holds a rolled scroll, his right hand is in a double-fingered blessing. On the sides of the Mother of God are profile images of a cherub and a seraph. The clothes are decorated with gold embroidery, as well as leaf silver and gold appliques.
