Icon. The Ascension of Christ. Set: Festive row of the iconostasis of the Transfiguration Church on Kizhi Island
The Ascension of Christ icon is part of the festive row of the iconostasis of the Transfiguration Church on Kizhi Island. It was created in the first quarter of the XVIII century. The icon is made in the technique of tempera on two pine boards using pavoloka and levkas. The lower part depicts a multi—figure composition: in the center is the Virgin in the pose of an Oracle and two angels, on the sides are groups of apostles. Above the Virgin is a stone with the footprints of Christ. In the upper part there is Christ in the pose of a judge, being lifted up to heaven by two angels: in his left hand he has a rolled—up scroll, his right hand is in a double-fingered blessing.
