The frame with stamps for the icon «The Intercession of the Virgin»

The frame with stamps for the icon «The Intercession of the Virgin» was created around the middle of the XVIII century (about 1759) in Zaonezhye, Olonets province. The frame is based on four coniferous boards with three mortise-through dowels, it has an ark, a linen canopy and a thin gesso. The composition includes 16 stamps located around the perimeter of the mullion. The stamps depict various subjects related to the Virgin: the establishment of the feast of the Intercession, the apparitions of the Virgin to the saints, miracles and patronage, the celebration of the Intercession and others.
