Nikolai Kasatkin. "The Strike" ("Women Workers Storming the Factory"), 1906
Nikolai Kasatkin's painting "The Strike", also known as "Women Workers Storming the Factory", was painted in 1906, shortly after the revolutionary events of 1905. It is a contemporary's view of a workers' protest.
Nikolai Kasatkin (1859–1930) was a member of the Association of Travelling Art Exhibitions (the Peredvizhniki) from 1891. The revolutionary events of 1905 became an important theme for him: among the works of that time are "The Militant Worker" and "A Selfless Victim of the Revolution". In 1923 Kasatkin was the first to receive the title of People's Artist of the Republic.
The painting is executed in oil on canvas.
