Leo Tolstoy. "War and Peace", 1869 Edition

A book of Leo Tolstoy's novel "War and Peace", dated 1869 in the catalogue. The novel appeared gradually: in 1865–1866 the magazine "The Russian Messenger" printed its beginning under the title "The Year 1805", and the complete text came out as a separate edition in six volumes in 1868–1869.

This copy bears traces of its own history: there is a stamp "B.M.A.K." on the title page, and on the upper board of the binding a supralibros with the same letters, an ownership mark impressed on the binding. Whose library it was, the catalogue record does not say.
