Alexander Deineka. Alarm. December 1941
Alexander Deineka's drawing "Alarm. December 1941" belongs to his series of front-line drawings made on the Western Front in the first winter of the war. The artist recorded the war as it happened.
Alexander Deineka (1899–1969) was a painter, graphic artist and monumentalist who later became a People's Artist of the USSR. His painting "The Outskirts of Moscow. November 1941" also dates from the first months of the war. During the war Deineka also worked on posters in the TASS Windows studio.
The drawing is made in sanguine on paper — a soft red-brown medium that allows volume and movement to be captured quickly.
