Vladimir Serov. "Our Cause Is Just, Victory Will Be Ours" Poster, 1941
Vladimir Serov's poster repeats the words the country heard on the first day of the war. At 12 noon on 22 June 1941, Vyacheslav Molotov read out a radio address to the Soviet people and ended it with the phrase "Our cause is just, the enemy will be defeated, victory will be ours!" Stalin repeated it in his first radio address on 3 July 1941, and the slogan was used in the press until the end of the war.
Vladimir Serov (1910–1968) was a Leningrad artist; from 1941 to 1948 he headed the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists, and during the war he took part in the "Fighting Pencil" group. He later became President of the USSR Academy of Arts.
