State Archaeological Museum-Reserve 'Kostenki'
About museum
The Kostenki Museum-Reserve is a unique place that attracts the attention not only of scientists from around the world but also of people interested in history. It is located in the village of Kostenki, where 26 Paleolithic (Stone Age) sites are situated.
\r\n
\r\nThe earliest sites were established 45,000 years ago. It is no wonder Kostenki is called the birthplace of European civilization. The museum-reserve is built over an ancient dwelling made of mammoth bones, which is more than 20,000 years old. This dwelling is the greatest value of the museum-reserve, as it has been preserved in situ. In a specially constructed building, an exhibition based on original and replica materials has been created to tell the story of the longest period in human history — the Stone Age.
\r\n
\r\nThe museum is open to visitors for half of the year, and in winter some of its exhibits are moved to other museums of the Voronezh Region and the Central Black Earth region. Visitors can enjoy guided tours, exhibitions, museum programs, quests for children, master classes, and traditional museum festivals.
