About museum
The building of the Polyarny Museum is an architectural monument of the avant-garde era. The three-story building houses the main exhibition as well as temporary exhibitions dedicated to Murmansk artists, the history of Polyarny and the Kola Arctic region. One of the museum's rooms is styled as a Pomor hut. Programs for all ages from 2+ are held here, where visitors can handle any museum object. The main exhibition presents life in the Far North millennia ago, the characteristics of the rich nature of the Arctic region and the principal representatives of its flora and fauna. The museum also tells the story of the founding of Alexandrovsk, scientific discoveries and the first expeditions to explore the Northern Sea Route. Visitors can also learn about the geopolitical significance of Ekaterininskaya Bay during the First World War, the birth of the young Northern Fleet, Polyarny as a naval capital and the development of the garrison in the postwar years.
