Gornozavodsky Local History Museum named after M.P. Starostin
About museum
In 1967 a public museum was established in Gornozavodsk. The organizers were M.P. Ermakov, M.P. Starostin, M.P. Batuev, V.V. Kireev and V.Ya. Solokhin. The first director of the museum was M.P. Starostin, who was a local historian, a member of the USSR Geographical Society, a lecturer for the district 'Znanie' (Knowledge) society, a worker-correspondent for the district newspaper 'Leninets', a photographer and a film enthusiast. In 1980 the museum received the title 'People's'. The museum has various exhibition halls: 'Local History Department', 'Museum of Stone', 'Nature Department', 'Exhibition Hall' and 'Sea Museum'. Today the museum bears the name of its first director and one of the founders.
