Gimry Local History Museum
About museum
The Gimry Museum exhibits valuable items and documents related to the Caucasian War of 1817–1864 and the mountain peoples' liberation movement led by Imam Shamil. Here you can see the imam's chain mail and household utensils, as well as handwritten Qur'ans dating back more than 200 years. Among them the most valuable are distinctive personal diaries written between the pages and devoted to the birth of children, household affairs, and natural disasters. In addition, the museum displays letters of Imam Shamil and books entirely written in a single hand, bound in leather with embossing. The exhibition contains more than 1,000 items. The museum was opened in 2001.
