Geological and Zoological Museums of the Museum and Exhibition Complex of Derzhavin University
About museum
Over decades, the Geological Museum was formed through teaching practicums, field research and expeditions across the country. The oldest collection is the educational geological collection, created on the basis of the collection of the Alexandrinsky Institute for Noble Maidens (19th century). Today it represents a unique compilation of mineralogical, petrographic, paleontological and archaeological collections with more than 2,500 specimens in storage. They include samples of minerals and rocks from across Russia, the CIS and Africa. The zoological collection was established in the late 1960s and consists of 1,173 specimens. The museum's scientific holdings total 7,500 items, which are regularly used for teaching and biology olympiads. The Zoological Museum of Derzhavin University can rival many museums in terms of the size of its collections.
