The Feodosia Art Gallery named after I.K. Aivazovsky is one of the oldest and most popular museums in Russia and the first public art gallery in the south of the country. It was opened on July 29, 1880. The house of the artist Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (1817–1900) became the center of the region's cultural life. Many renowned painters, musicians, actors, and public figures visited it. The gallery building is an architectural monument; it was built to I.K. Aivazovsky's design in the mid-20th century. After the artist's death in 1900, the gallery, in accordance with his will, passed into the ownership of the city.
