V. I. Lenin House-Museum
About museum
The V. I. Lenin House-Museum, the oldest museum in our region, was opened on November 7, 1937 in the Orlov family house, built in the 1870s. It is located in the historic part of the city, where the progressive Russian intelligentsia had previously lived. The building is of historical value as a monument of wooden architecture and construction of the second half of the 19th century, preserved in its original form. Around it there is a cozy garden-park area with rare plants, which makes this place quite harmonious with the urban landscape. The idea of opening such a museum in Kazan emerged back in the 1920s. It was realized in the mid-1930s with the participation of members of the Ulyanov family, as well as S. S. Gafurov and G. I. Respublikants. Unlike many other Lenin museums, the Kazan one was opened in the house where the Ulyanov family lived with Vladimir Ilyich from 1888 to 1889, and where a suitable environment was created for him.
