I. I. Shishkin House-Museum
About museum
On 26 (13) January 1832, in the town of Yelabuga in the Vyatka Governorate, the outstanding Russian painter Ivan Shishkin was born. The unique master of Russian landscape painting grew up in a modest merchant family. The majestic nature of his native region and the centuries-old forests stretching along the banks of the Kama River were a source of inspiration for him from childhood. The parents' house now houses the memorial I. I. Shishkin House-Museum with a ceremonial enfilade of rooms on the first floor, a studio and a living room on the second, and an art gallery with original paintings and graphic works by the artist. It presents the interior of a provincial merchant household of the 19th century, lovingly and painstakingly restored.
