About museum
Sergey Vasilyevich Gerasimov was a Russian painter, born in 1885 in Mozhaysk into a peasant family. He received his art education in Moscow at the Stroganov School of Art and Industry and at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where his mentors included S. V. Ivanov and K. A. Korovin. Beginning in 1906, Gerasimov participated in exhibitions, presenting watercolor and oil portraits and poetic landscapes of Russia. His love for the Motherland and lyrical perception of nature were reflected in his work. For his contributions to the development of Russian art, Sergey was awarded the title People's Artist of the USSR and received prizes at international exhibitions. In 1964 a decision was made to establish the S. V. Gerasimov House-Museum based on his Mozhaysk home. The house was built in the early 20th century on the bank of the Moscow River according to the artist's own designs. After several years of restoration, the S. V. Gerasimov House-Museum has reopened to visitors. It is now a branch of the Federal State Budgetary Cultural Institution "State Borodino Military-Historical Museum-Reserve".
