About museum
The house-museum of Hero of the Soviet Union A. Chekalin, located in the village of Peskovatkoye, is a branch of the Municipal Budgetary Cultural Institution "Suvorov District Local History Museum." It was established on the initiative of the village youth in 1962. With the help of Komsomol members, personal belongings and items of A. Chekalin were collected. The first tour guide was Maria Kuzminichna Averina, the wife of Sergey Averin, the hero's childhood friend. In the museum you can see photographs of Alexander's relatives and close ones, as well as visit a room furnished as it was in Chekalin's house during the hero's lifetime. The house-museum hosts meetings with war and labor veterans, history lessons, Days of Remembrance, talks, lectures, local history evenings, as well as excursions to partisan dugouts and sacred sites. In addition, the museum regularly participates in the local history gathering "Likhvinsky Meetings".
