House of Merchant Shvedov
About museum
In the mid-19th century an estate was built that belonged to the merchant Shvedov, who traded in flax and printed textiles, groceries, and essential household goods. In 2012 the house was restored, and now houses the exhibition 'Russians and Setos. One Land, a Shared History'. In the two rooms of the estate, which were formerly residential, you can see authentic furniture from the period, fascinating household items, photographs, and the costumes of Russians and the Finno-Ugric Seto people. For many years Russians and Setos exchanged elements of culture, traditions, and rituals. The exhibition transports visitors to a distant past, when people wore garments made from simple materials, and helps to understand how two different cultures could intermingle.
