This memorial complex is one of Sevastopol's foremost attractions, commemorating the heroic deeds of the soldiers and civilians who defended the Motherland.
Located 12 km from Sevastopol on Sapun Hill is a World War II memorial complex. Its main feature is the diorama "Assault on Sapun Hill, 7 May 1944", created by P. T. Maltsev, G. I. Marchenko and N. S. Prisekin of the M. B. Grekov Military Studio. The lower halls of the diorama house the exhibition "Sevastopol during the Great Patriotic War" as well as displays of military equipment. The unique Obelisk of Glory is surrounded by granite slabs inscribed with the names of the units and formations that defended Sevastopol and the names of Heroes of the Soviet Union. In honor of the 25th anniversary of Victory an Eternal Flame was lit, accompanied by the melody of the song "Sapun Hill" by B. V. Bogolepov. This memorial complex holds historical significance for Sevastopol, serving as a reminder of the heroic deeds of the homeland's defenders.
