Children of Stalingrad, Volgograd
About museum
Museum 'Children of Tsaritsyn - Stalingrad - Volgograd', which tells the story of children's lives from the founding of our city to the present day, was opened on June 1, 1993. The founder of the museum is Kuleshova Yulia Vladimirovna (1930-2008). The museum has three halls.
In the hall 'Children of Tsaritsyn and pre-war Stalingrad' documents and photographs are displayed that describe how and where the children of our city were educated, how they spent their leisure time, and the creation of children's and youth organizations that operated in pre-war Stalingrad.
In the hall 'Children of War' visitors learn about what the children had to endure during the Battle of Stalingrad, about concentration camps in the region, about the feats of the young defenders of Stalingrad, about orphanages, and about children's lives after liberation.
The hall 'Life and Creativity of the Children of Volgograd' contains material on the lives of youngsters after the war: how they studied, children's problems and achievements, and youth clubs organized by interests. Thematic exhibitions are also held here.
The museum hosts meetings with veterans of the Great Patriotic War, members of the association 'Children of Military Stalingrad', educational lectures dedicated to lesser-known pages of the history of Russia and Volgograd, and scientific-practical conferences on the topic 'Children and War'. Senior students and youngsters interested in local history can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of 1930s Stalingrad by taking part in the 'immersion' program 'Childhood in Pre-war Stalingrad'.
