Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P. S. Gamzatova
About museum
The P. S. Gamzatova Museum of Fine Arts in Dagestan was established by order of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR in 1958. The basis of its collection consisted of exhibits transferred from the art department of the Local History Museum. Since then the museum's collection has grown to 19,000 storage units. In 2001 the Government of the Republic of Dagestan gave the museum the name of P. S. Gamzatova. It is located in the building of the former Supreme Soviet of the Dagestan ASSR, with an area of 1,550 sq. m. The museum's permanent exhibition includes the sections 'Russian Art of the 19th – early 20th centuries', 'Western European Art of the 16th – early 20th centuries' and 'Decorative and Applied Arts of Dagestan'. The museum holds various events such as exhibitions, master classes, etc., to promote art.
