The Derbent defensive complex was built during the reign of the most powerful king of the Sasanian dynasty, Khosrow I Anushirvan (531–579). In 567 stone walls were erected that have survived to the present day. They have no decorative elements, but up to ten different types of stone masonry, corresponding to different periods, can be identified in them. The main masonry of all the structures of the Derbent defensive system is the same. Thus, it can be concluded that all the fortification structures were built during a single historical period. Today the Derbent defensive complex is an important historical monument that continues to protect the city of Derbent.
