Chirkatinsky Local History Museum
About museum
In the Chirkatinsky Local History Museum visitors can learn about the history of the Dagestani village of Chirkata, discover the crafts of the local inhabitants, and get an idea of life in an old mountain house. It houses an archaeological collection that provides insight into life more than 3,000 years ago. The exhibits include items of traditional women's clothing and Bronze Age jewelry. Crafts practiced by the residents of Chirkata included tanning of leather and fur, felting of wool, and spinning of woolen threads. From these materials they made everyday clothing, and burduks (leather wineskins) were also widely used; these were employed not only for storing liquids and bulk products but also as lifebuoys or floats. Finally, the museum is dedicated to participants of the Great Patriotic War. The museum's collections comprise 1,780 items. The museum was opened in 2008 and is a branch of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi.
