Church pavilion of the Grand Menshikov Palace
About museum
In 1727, by order of A. D. Menshikov, the Oranienbaum Court Church was built in the tower pavilion of the Grand Menshikov Palace. It was dedicated to Saint Panteleimon, the Great Martyr and Healer, and served two functions: court and parish. From 2006 to 2015 the church underwent a comprehensive restoration, and historic interiors from the mid-18th to the early 20th century were restored. Today the Oranienbaum Church displays 13 iconostasis images, including the altar icon, as well as 32 wall images on four of the five tiers. In addition, the display cases show fragments of stucco decoration from A. Rinaldi's period, a gilded and a silver analoy (lectern), a 19th-century crystal chandelier, four silver lampadas and textile furnishings.
In 1727 A. D. Menshikov commissioned the construction of the Oranienbaum Court Church to commemorate the triumphant memorial to the naval "victories" of Peter's Russia. For two centuries the church served two purposes: court and parish.
