Annunciation Mausoleum
About museum
The Annunciation Mausoleum, built in 1717–1724 by architects D. Trezzini and T. Schwertfeger, is an important monument of Russian cultural history, as it became the first pantheon for the country's statesmen and military figures. The building is an excellent example of Petrine Baroque preserved to the present day. On the ground floor of the Annunciation Mausoleum are memorial monuments to the Romanovs, to Peter the Great, to the heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812, to admirals, to statesmen and to other notable people. Particular attention is deserved by the collection of sculptural tombs by I. P. Martos, F. G. Gordeev, Zh. D. Rashetta, V. I. Demut-Malinovsky and O. Montferrand. In 1800 A. V. Suvorov was buried here.
