Marble Sculpture "Heracles"
This 19th-century marble sculpture is devoted to Heracles, the hero of Greek mythology, son of Zeus and Alcmene, who performed twelve labours at the command of King Eurystheus. In ancient Rome he was revered under the name Hercules.
The catalogue does not name the sculptor or the place of creation. The sculpture is carved from marble: the description of the technique lists rough dressing, turning and polishing of the stone.
