The Cabinet of Peter the Great, 1800
Osip Belyaev's "The Cabinet of Peter the Great" is a detailed guide to the belongings of Peter I kept in the Kunstkamera in St Petersburg. This is the first section of the edition: a description of the emperor's wax figure, his military and civilian clothing, objects he made with his own hands, and other memorable items that belonged to the monarch. The text is accompanied by four engraved figures.
Osip Petrovich Belyaev (c. 1763–1807) served as under-librarian of the Academy of Sciences, worked as a proofreader at the academic press and taught at the Academic Gymnasium. The 1800 edition is an expanded version of his catalogue of 1793. It was issued by order of Paul I and printed at the press of the Imperial Academy of Sciences.
The Azov Museum counts "The Cabinet of Peter the Great" among the especially valuable items of its Rare Books collection. The book has a leather binding with tooling.
