Peter Simon Pallas. Journey through Various Provinces of the Russian State, 1778

This is the Russian edition of Academician Peter Simon Pallas's famous account of his expedition across Russia: the first half of the third part, covering the years 1772 and 1773. The book appeared in 1778 in a translation by Vasily Zuev.

Pallas (1741–1811) was a naturalist, doctor of medicine, professor of natural history and member of the St Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In 1768–1774 he led the main party of the Academy's expedition. His account was published in German in 1771–1776, and the Russian edition came out from 1773 to 1788. The translator, Vasily Zuev, took part in the journey himself: as a gymnasium pupil he was a member of Pallas's main party.

The book is printed on laid paper with watermarks. The binding of pasteboard and leather is decorated with tooling.
