Our Lady of Tolga

The icon "Our Lady of Tolga" belongs to the type of "Tenderness" and is a product of the 13th century. In the icon, the Mother of God supports the Baby with Her left hand, and Her right hand is at Her breast. The baby wrapped his arms around the Mother of God's neck and pressed his cheek against her. The faces are painted with dramatic expressiveness: the Mother of God has large almond—shaped eyes, a thin nose and raised eyebrows, the Baby's face is serious and sad. The palette is restrained, with brown-cherry, green and black tones. The silver background and some features of the writing indicate Romanesque features. The icon has various markings and inscriptions, including a number and designations related to museum accounting.
