Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli – a Soviet, Georgian and Russian monumental artist, sculptor, painter, educator, and president of the Russian Academy of Arts. After graduating from the Tbilisi Academy of Arts, he worked on monumental projects in Georgia and the USSR, becoming the chief artist of the XXII Olympic Games in Moscow.
His large-scale works adorn many cities around the world. Notable works located in Moscow include the Monument to Peter I and the Victory Obelisk on Poklonnaya Hill. Tsereteli was also the initiator of the creation of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) and president of the Moscow International Foundation for UNESCO Assistance. Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli passed away on April 22, 2025 in Moscow.
