About museum

Viktor Bazheyevich Mokhosoev – a local historian, history teacher at the Alar Secondary School, and the founder of the "Stepnaya Duma" museum in the village of Alar, Alarsky District. He was born on January 6, 1928, in the ulus Ulakhan, where he spent his childhood and school years. In 1945 Mokhosoev graduated from Alar Secondary School and enrolled in the history faculty of Irkutsk State University.

After graduating from the university he worked as a director (principal) at schools in the district, and in 1962 returned to his native Alar. Viktor Bazheyevich was a respected figure in his village, noted for his erudition and always kept informed of all news and events. At the heart of Mokhosoev's local history work lay a deep interest in the past. He believed that every old yellowed page, every miraculously preserved photograph, and the recollections of veterans and longtime residents helped combat indifference to the history of one's native land. Viktor Bazheyevich Mokhosoev passed away in 1996.
