Tagir Taipovich Kusimov was a Soviet military commander, Hero of the Soviet Union, and Major General. He was born into a poor peasant family in the village of Kusimovo, Abzelilovsky District, Bashkiria. He was orphaned early. In 1928 Kusimov entered service in the Red Army. He graduated from the United Tatar-Bashkir school and from courses for the improvement of command personnel.
In April 1942 Kusimov went to the front of the Great Patriotic War, where he commanded the 58th Guards Cavalry Regiment. Under his command the regiment liberated numerous settlements and crossed several large rivers. For the successful crossing of the Dnieper in September 1943 Kusimov was awarded the Order of Suvorov, 3rd class, and received the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
After the war Kusimov continued to serve in the Turkestan Military District while studying at the Frunze Military Academy and the Military Academy of the General Staff. In 1963, with the rank of Major General, he returned to his homeland, becoming the military commissar of the Bashkir ASSR. He served as a deputy of several Supreme Soviets. Tagir Taipovich Kusimov died in 1986 and was buried in Ufa.
