Tufan Abdullovich Minnullin was a Soviet and Russian playwright, prose writer, publicist and public figure. He was born on August 25, 1935 in the village of Bolshoye Meretkozino (now in the Kamsko-Ustyinsky District of Tatarstan). In 1952 he graduated from secondary school. From 1956 to 1961 he studied at the M. S. Shchepkin Theatre School in Moscow.
From 1961 to 1964 Minnullin worked as an actor at the Menzelinsk Academic Theatre, while continuing his work as a playwright. In 1962 his comedy “People of Our Village” was accepted for production at the Menzelinsk Academic Theatre. From 1964 to 1967 Minnullin worked as an editor at the Kazan television studio, while also serving as a literary contributor for the magazine “Chayan”. Since 1968 he was professionally engaged in literary activity.
From 1975 to 1977 he studied at the Higher Literary Courses in Moscow. From 1984 to 1989 he was chairman of the board of the Union of Writers of the TASSR. He was a People's Deputy of the USSR (1989–1991) and a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Tufan Abdullovich Minnullin passed away on May 2, 2012 and was buried at the Novo-Tatar Cemetery in Kazan.
