Sibgat Tazievich Khakim was a Soviet Tatar poet, publicist, and lyricist. He was named People's Poet of the Tatar ASSR (1986). He was born on December 4 (17), 1911, in the village of Kulle-Kimi into a poor peasant family. Khakim studied at the Kazan workers' faculty (rabfak), and in 1937 graduated from the Kazan Pedagogical Institute.
At the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War he went to the front. Khakim commanded a rifle platoon and took part in battles on various sectors of the front. He ended the war in Moldova and was awarded the Order of the Red Star and several medals. After the war Khakim served as a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Tatar ASSR and as secretary of the Union of Writers of the RSFSR.
Khakim's first works appeared in 1931. His first collection of poems, "First Songs", was published in 1938. Khakim wrote many works about the war, heroism, and feats at the front and in the rear, including the poems "The Gardeners", "Across the Cliffs", and "Arc". Sibgat Tazievich Khakim died on August 3, 1986, in Kazan.
