Sergey Mikhailovich Tretyakov – a Russian merchant-entrepreneur, public figure, philanthropist, and brother of Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov. He was born in Moscow into a merchant family that owned several shops in the Gostiny Dvor and factories producing paper and paints.
Sergey Mikhailovich Tretyakov achieved significant success in business and actively participated in Moscow's public life. From the early 1860s he held prominent positions in the city administration — he was a member of the Moscow City Duma and the head of the Moscow merchant community. Tretyakov was actively involved in addressing social and urban issues: he organized fundraising for the army during the Russo-Turkish War and supported the development of education and urban infrastructure.
Together with his brother he financed the Arnoldo-Tretyakov School for deaf children. In 1888 he was elected chairman of the Moscow Society of Art Lovers. Sergey Mikhailovich Tretyakov died in 1892.
