Sergei Nikolaevich Khudekov

Sergei Nikolaevich Khudekov – a lawyer, military officer, writer, publisher ("Petersburg Gazette"), philanthropist (founder of the Sochi Arboretum), and public figure. He was born in Moscow into the family of a minor landowner. He was educated at the Third Moscow Gymnasium, and in 1854 graduated from Moscow State University with a degree in law. After university he entered military service and distinguished himself in the battles of the Crimean War, for which he was awarded an honorary order on the St. Andrew's ribbon. He made his mark in literature, journalism, and agriculture, was a well-known benefactor and the author of ballet librettos, including for "La Bayadère", as well as several plays.
