Pyotr Petrovich Khuzangay

Pyotr Petrovich Khuzangay was a Chuvash Soviet poet, translator, and People's Poet of the Chuvash ASSR. He was born into a peasant family and received his education at the Chuvash Pedagogical Technical School and the Eastern Pedagogical Institute in Kazan. He graduated from the Higher Literary Courses under the Union of Soviet Writers. He worked as a translator and literary consultant, served as the secretary of the editorial board of the magazine "Suntal", and was a roving correspondent for the central Chuvash newspaper "Kommunar".

Khuzangay combined his literary work with active civic and political engagement. He was a deputy of the Supreme Soviets of the RSFSR and the Chuvash ASSR, chaired the board of the Union of Writers of the Chuvash ASSR, and was a member of the boards of the Unions of Writers of the RSFSR and the USSR. During the Great Patriotic War he was at the front as an ordinary soldier and as a contributor to divisional newspapers. He was severely wounded. Pyotr Petrovich Khuzangay died in Cheboksary in 1970.
