Pavel Mikhailovich Dogadin

About museum

Pavel Mikhailovich Dogadin was a Russian merchant and collector. He was born into a family of Astrakhan merchants and graduated from the Imperial Higher Technical School as a mechanical engineer. His short life was marked by selfless devotion to the arts and love for his native region — the merchant dreamed of opening an art gallery in his hometown. In 1912 Pavel Mikhailovich purchased the first three paintings from the collector Golikov; the collection later grew to 130 works of art. Pavel Dogadin's collection formed the basis of the Astrakhan Art Gallery's holdings, and the patron's name has remained forever in the city's history.
