Pyotr Ivanovich Sholokhov was a Soviet realist artist, painter and graphic artist, a pupil of Abram Arkhipov. Pyotr Sholokhov was born in the Voronezh region into a merchant family. After receiving his art education at the Borisoglebsk studio and VKhUTEMAS, he became a member of the Association of Artists of the Revolution. He took part in the Great Patriotic War, serving at the front in the divisional club.
After the war he traveled extensively and painted landscapes. Pyotr Sholokhov also taught at the Pravda publishing-house studio. Among his students were B. A. Sholokhov (his nephew), Yuri Ivanovich Rogozin, and Vasily Mikhailovich Yurchik. In 1982 he donated more than 100 of his works to the art museums of Voronezh and Borisoglebsk. He died in Moscow in 1988. His work is a valuable contribution to the development of Soviet realist art.
