Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – a Russian composer, teacher, conductor and music critic. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born into the family of an engineer and a pianist. He received a legal education and served in the Ministry of Justice, but devoted his life to music. He graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory with a large silver medal. After that he moved to Moscow, where he obtained a position as a professor at the newly opened Moscow Conservatory. It was then that he made his debut as a conductor, which marked the beginning of his professional career as a performer. Tchaikovsky's first operas, "Voyevoda" and "The Snow Maiden", brought him worldwide fame, and the ballet "Swan Lake" immortalized the composer's name.
