Pavel Fyodorovich Shardakov – a Soviet and Russian realist artist, painter (monumentalist and easel painter). Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (2002). Born on 24 October 1929 in the village of Kopylovka, Okhansky District of the Ural Region, into a peasant family. In 1934 the family moved to Perm, where his father began working as a cabman. After finishing school, Pavel, who had shown talent for drawing from an early age, was taken on to work at the "Agitplakat" workshop of the Perm Union of Artists.
He was educated at the Sverdlovsk Art and Pedagogical School (1952) and at the Leningrad Higher School of Art and Industry in the Department of Monumental Painting (1958). After completing his studies in Leningrad he returned to Perm. In 1962 he joined the Union of Artists of the USSR. In 1965 he was elected chairman of the board of the Perm branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. That same year, at a plenary meeting of the Union's board in Moscow, he was invited to move to Volgograd, where there was much work for a monumental artist.
Alongside works of monumental-decorative art, he created numerous landscape canvases, portraits and still lifes. P. F. Shardakov's name was entered in the encyclopedia "The Best People of Russia" in 2005. The artist's paintings and graphic works are held in museums in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Perm, Novgorod, Vologda, Sverdlovsk, London, Madrid and Prague. Pavel Fyodorovich Shardakov passed away on 7 November 2007 in Volgograd.
