Nikolai Stefanovich Kosov was an artist, photographer, local historian, and the first director of the Ivnyansky Local History Museum. He was born in 1933 on the Gorki farmstead in the Ivnyansky district. In 1959 he graduated from the Vladivostok Art College with a qualification as a teacher of drawing and drafting.
In 1974, after finishing college, Kosov returned to his native Ivnyansky district. He worked as an artist-decorator and as a teacher of drawing and drafting at the Kurasovskaya secondary school, and also led the school's tourism club. In his free time he painted, creating watercolors, pencil drawings, multi-figure compositions, still lifes, and original forest sculptures made from tree roots and branches. His works include landscapes, genre scenes, and a series of portraits of local residents, including Hero of the Soviet Union P. P. Desnitsky.
Nikolai Kosov's works were repeatedly exhibited at district and regional exhibitions. The artist twice became a laureate of the All-Union telephoto competition and was awarded numerous certificates and diplomas. In 1984, on the basis of the collections he had assembled, Kosov founded a local history museum in Voznesenovka. In 2003 this museum received the status of a district historical and local history museum, and Kosov became its first director. Nikolai Stefanovich Kosov died on December 26, 2007 and was buried in Voznesenovka.
