About museum
M. P. and D. P. Yakovlev are neighbors of A. N. Ostrovsky by estate, owners of the Komarovo estate in Kineshma Uyezd of the Kostroma Governorate, and zemstvo figures.
Mikhail Pavlovich Yakovlev is an active zemstvo figure. He graduated from the Main Engineering School in St. Petersburg, then served in a sapper battalion. After retiring, he settled at the Komarovo estate, managed the household and was active in zemstvo affairs. In 1861 he served as a justice of the peace in Kineshma Uyezd, and later was twice elected as a member of the Kineshma zemstvo, in 1871 and 1874.
At M. P. Yakovlev's initiative, the first savings-and-loan association in Kineshma Uyezd was established. Showing concern for the education of the local population, he offered the zemstvo his land for the establishment of a public school in Komarovo.
