Moisey Spiridonovich Spiridonov – painter, graphic artist, artist-educator, People's Artist of the Chuvash Republic, Honored Art Worker of the Chuvash Republic and of the Russian Federation. He was born in the village of Yanshikhovo-Norvashi. He graduated from the Kazan Art School and studied at the Higher Art School of the Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, interrupting his studies to serve in the army during World War I.
In 1918 he returned to Chuvashia and devoted himself to the development of the visual arts. He held various positions: he headed the visual arts section, was in charge of the Local History Museum, led the board of the Cheboksary branch of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia, chaired the Union of Chuvash Artists, taught at the Cheboksary Art School, and organized exhibitions of Chuvash artists. Moisey Spiridonovich Spiridonov died on March 31, 1981.
